Skin Cancer Awareness Month is an annual observance held in May to raise awareness about skin cancer, promote prevention, and encourage early detection and treatment. The campaign aims to educate the public about the risks of skin cancer, provide information on prevention methods, and emphasize the importance of regular skin screenings.

Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer in the world, and it primarily develops due to exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun or artificial sources like tanning beds. Head to the bottom of this page for links for resources and our favorite brands for sun protection.

I received this email from Dr. JT at the beginning of the year. Admittedly, it was opened with a little apprehension as I could see that it was sent in regards to (eek!) ... a broken bracelet. Well, was I happily surprised or what? It's not everyday that a customer reaches out to me with the story of their Women Clothing - Tank Fashion,Shop for Women's Clothes Fashionbracelet.

I want to share Dr. JT's story with you and encourage anyone that wears Women Clothing - Tank Fashion,Shop for Women's Clothes Fashionto reach out and let me know what it means to you.

To Whom it May Concern,

I am writing to let you know that the bracelet I order back in 2013 broke, and although for most items this might be a knock on their quality or workmanship I can promise you, your bracelet was nothing of the sort.

I purchased this in 2013 when I was going through an incredibly rough time in my life, and the look and feel of this on my wrist was both comforting and empowering. What began as an “accessory” became the equivalent of a wedding ring. In fact, I bought a matching bracelet for my girlfriend (now wife) before I even proposed. I never took this bracelet off from the date it was purchased until it fell off yesterday.

It went though a brief exchange with you guys as you were refining your adhesives in 2014 but otherwise it never came off my wrist. Every shower, every hour of work outside, painting the inside and outside of my house and it was still going strong.

I am a college professor and marine biologist and it went with me into the ocean weekly; many weeks multiple times; doing snorkel surveys for sea turtles, fishes, and free diving and spearing with my kids. It’s been out with me on every shark tagging trip since 2013 and was on my wrist handling and tagging dozens of sharks including a 6-ft Tiger Shark last summer.

I will be placing my order very soon for a replacement (probably after I send this email), but I wanted you to know how happy I was with your product.

Attached are a few pics of your bracelet in action (if you look closely at my right wrist) and it as it sits on my table today.

They help us source oyster shells from local Boston restaurants; we collect the shells, sanitize them, then up-cycle the shells to use in our kits and other handmade products. Oyster shells release harmful gases that pollute the environment when they are dumped in landfills. However, when they have undergone a year long sanitation process and are reintroduced to the ocean they create a natural bed for new oysters to grow and create reefs. Reefs create barriers that protect and restore the coastline. MOP has continued to expand their shell recycling program through Cape Cod and this summer, they collected thousands of pounds of oyster shells.

Yes, but.... In order to execute your orders as fast as possible we are actively stocking a limited collection of half-made bracelets for custom orders. This collection includes our most popular Rayminder stones as well as our new favorites for fall. That said, we have the ability to assemble and produce all of our handmade jewelry in our Boston-based studio. If you'd like a color or bead size included in our Rayminder Collection but not actively offered in our custom collection feel free to reach out to us at: [email protected].

What stone options are available in the Custom Rayminder Collection?

"Running a sustainable swimwear business means a lot of time out in the sun. Every morning after I shower I apply sunscreen all over my body, Sun Bum is my favorite because it is reef safe. "Who doesn't deserve a day in the sun relaxing and unwinding? The key is to get sun kissed not sun slapped. Here is my skin routine pre and post beach day:

1. I apply the Ursa Major Force Field Daily Defense Lotion on my face, neck, and shoulders. It's a SPF18 and works really well. It's non-scented and doesn't clog up your pores. I toss this in my beach bag and re-apply after swimming.

2. Post the beach I use the Ursa Fantastic Face Wash in the shower. This is my everyday face wash and removed all SPF from the day but doesn't leave your face dry and tight.

3. Finally, I use the Ursa Major Golden Hour Recovery Cream. This was made for those post summer days. It's a super-rich cream that hydrates the skin. This too can be used as a daily moisturizer."

"I recommend applying an SPF that contains titanium dioxide and/or zinc oxide (these reflect the suns rays and are immediately effective rather than chemicals that need to soak into the skin) before and during the day as well as a wide brim hat to protect your skin from the powerful sun rays. Staying hydrated by drinking lots of water keeps your skin and body healthy and younger looking, longer as well as making you feel better after a long day in the sun."

"Hydration internally and topically is key after several hours in the sun. Drinking copious amounts of water is just as important as applying water to your skin. "At the end of a beach day, your skin will need extra special care! After cleaning and washing your skin from sunscreen, sand, and the ocean, you will want to hydrate and moisturize as well. Our "Poseidon" bath bomb has moisturizing ingredients for all skin types, including shea butter, oatmeal, and coconut oil. On rainy or cold days, an alternative to a beach trip can be to enjoy a beach-inspired bath bomb, such as our "Deep Blue" bath bomb filled with dead sea salt, seaweed, epsom salt, and bergamot essential oil."

"I spent my childhood romping on the beaches of Cape Cod, and not once do I recall having sun protection applied to me. As a teen, I recall dedicating hours to perfecting my tan by applying cooking oil to my limbs. I shudder to think of those days now. In my early 30s I had to have three different spots removed after discovering some pre-cancerous cells. Since then, I've been very diligent about protection from the sun - both for me and for my young sons. These days, you'll find me on my favorite Cape beach with a giant sun hat and sunglasses, a long sleeve rash guard (I always stock up on J.Crew's options), some neon Zinka nose coat and a full complement of Supergoop! products. I have even worn yoga leggings over my suit from time to time (still looking for the perfect full body option). I love being in the water and playing in the sand too much to give it up. I arm myself with as many tools as possible so I don't miss a minute on the beach with my boys.

Post beach (or pool, when I'm landlocked), I apply my FoxSea Skin Universal Oil to damp body skin after my shower. For my face, I spritz with either an Evian atomizer (I've kept a can by my side since the early 90s) or a FoxSea Skin hydrosol and then immediately press quite a few drops of FoxSea Skin Eternal Oil into my face, neck and chest. Then I swipe Eye Eye, Captain underneath my eyes, only tapping it into the skin if I'm going out in public, otherwise I just let the oil sink in over time. The blends of ingredients in these three beauty oil products contain ultra nourishing, plant powered oils that give skin a variety of benefits. I prefer these (and many other brands') golden oils because they're powerful yet completely clean. Every drop contains skin benefitting compounds, not fillers, synthetic fragrances, dyes or preservatives.

Universal Oil in particular contains avocado oil, which helps reduce inflammation and soothe skin thanks to essential fatty acids and oleic acid, making it perfect for post sun exposure. While this isn't great for FoxSea sales, I have recommended to friends, family and customers that when you can't find your favorite body oil, an organic, culinary grade bottle of straight avocado oil from the market is a fantastic option. Even consuming avocados are reported to help protect skin from damaging UV rays, but I definitely do not advise skipping SPF in lieu of guacamole.

My favorite summer skincare tip is to keep beauty products in the fridge, because it makes everything feel so refreshing. I now keep one of those mini pink fridges seen all over Instagram in my bathroom, so I don't have to trek to the kitchen after each shower."

The best way to reduce your risk of skin cancer is by completely removing yourself from the reach of uv rays. Well, you can't have vitamin sea without Vitamin D so this May consider adding a sun safety measure to your daily routine to reduce your sun exposure.

That does not change the fact that for most of us, this three day weekend marks the start of beach season. So, we've rounded up our favorite products to pack for your first beach weekend of 2021. In honor of May being Skin Cancer Awareness Month we have highlighted our essential items for extra sun protection.

Hi, Paul! I'm so excited to introduce you to the Women Clothing - Tank Fashion,Shop for Women's Clothes FashionBoat Club! I'm sure a number of our Mermaids and Seadogs are familiar with Paul Landry Co. but for those that are not let's start with the basics; tell us a little bit about yourself.

Hi! I am Paul Landry, twenty-three year old, self proclaimed ~expert juggler~ of business, work, play and travel. I grew up all over the United States as my Dad opened restaurants. I now live in Miami, FL. Beyond running Paul Landry out of a small three person studio, I am also a full time yacht captain. I went to college at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute as an Aerospace Engineering student, where I started PLCO in my fraternity living room.

Aerospace engineering student turned clothing designer, huh? Well, that is certainly a twist! Tell us a little more about this switch and the origin of PLCO.

PLCO started out of necessity when I visited friends in Vermont for a day of hiking. As I was getting ready to leave in my typical pastel-themed ensemble, I stopped and immediately thought, "man, I should change into something I can get dirty in". It was then I realized how silly it is to wear clothes you're too afraid to ruin. When I got back to NY from Vermont, I took the train down to NYC to source fabric and products that would better fit my lifestyle. After five months of sourcing and designing, I launched Paul Landry Co. in April of 2017.

If you had to describe the PLCO aesthetic in one sentence, what would you say?

I always say Paul Landry Co. is what you would get if Ralph Lauren and L.L. Bean had a baby, and that baby likes to sail.

I love that answer and it describes PLCO exactly! I like to think that Women Clothing - Tank Fashion,Shop for Women's Clothes Fashionhas parallels to that description too. And hey, you're a Women Clothing - Tank Fashion,Shop for Women's Clothes Fashionfan so it must, right? How did you first find letsmoveknoxville?

I found Women Clothing - Tank Fashion,Shop for Women's Clothes Fashionwayyyyy back when I first started PLCO. I was a complete novice when it came to instagram and growth. One thing I did know was that a good way to start was to find brands that had the look and feel I wanted to imitate. Women Clothing - Tank Fashion,Shop for Women's Clothes Fashionwas one of those accounts. I told myself once I got to 3,000 followers I would be 'big enough' to reach out, and that is exactly what I did. Funny enough, it wasn't until I met Bridget (fearless leader and designer extraordinaire) that I learned my first interaction with Women Clothing - Tank Fashion,Shop for Women's Clothes Fashionwas in Essex, CT where I had bought a bracelet before a sailing trip across the Atlantic to Bermuda.

What's your favorite letsmoveknoxville piece?

My favorite piece is easy, its the Journey Double Wrap Rope with brass brummels... I have 4! It doesn't make sense to most, but the way the double wrap looks, it reminds me of my early yachting career working on gaff-rigged schooners in Maine. All the brass hardware and miles of lines (rope) laying around are a staple of the schooner look, and I think Bridget captured it all perfectly in a bracelet. My number two pick is easily the Fid Cuff in Antique Brass. The weight is what I like best about it. It is solid brass and has been my favorite pairing with my watch (who am I kidding, I never take it off lol). My one claim to fame for Women Clothing - Tank Fashion,Shop for Women's Clothes Fashion~maybe~ is that I have sailed almost 10,000 miles with one of their bracelets on the whole time. They don't fade or wear down in the salty environment if you were wondering.

Paul, you have always been an incredibly collaborative person to work with and I thank you SO much for that. You recently included Women Clothing - Tank Fashion,Shop for Women's Clothes Fashionin an photoshoot collaboration with Brooks Brothers. I want the details! What was it like to partner with Brooks Brothers? Was it an absolute dream come true?

Brooks Brothers is quite literally the golden goose (or should I say fleece?) of the prep world. For over 200 years they have been a style icon to any and all seeking to upgrade their look. For myself, they have always been a major inspiration to my own business. Over the last five years, they have been shedding their older styling heritage and embracing a younger "vibe" to their brand. The launch of Red Fleece, a pretty yet functional frontman of the company has been an instant success and what brought them to my to my doorstep. I connected with them out of the blue via Instagram, and was able to easily coordinate a shoot over the next few days. They of course gave me some products that they really wanted to showcase, but also gave me creative free range to put together an outfit or two.

The shoot itself was sooooo much fun. I brought my 1972 MGB British sports car out, as well as used the 55' Moody sailboat I was captaining at the time for locations, and hired my close friend as the photographer. We bopped all over St. Augustine, FL scouting cool brick streets, and historic houses to shoot. It was a fantastic day, and when Brooks Brothers received the pictures, they were ec So much so, that we have already been in talks for another shoot for the Summer. Definitely a dream come true.

I can't wait to see the next photoshoot. I'm so excited to start sharing these pictures. Personally, I am in much need of a mental Spring break. Take us on a virtual vacation to Florida. What are your Top 5 places or things to do in Miami?

Coming from a Foodie family, (my Father being a striving restaurateur, and both my parents running a wildly successful restaurant for a short time) I have a craving for expanding my palate, and short of NYC, there is no place better than Miami.

Versailles - True Cuban flavor and great atmosphere.

Bodega - South Beach staple, super yummy tacos and tapas. Best part... in the back of the restaurant is a porta-potty door. Knock on it three times and you can get access to an amazing speakeasy club on the weekends.

Larios on the Beach - Authentic high-end Cuban food in an art deco building right on the beach. Hard to get a reservation but the food is to die for.

South Beach "the strip" - 1920s Art Deco buildings decked out in neon lights make for a truly iconic Miami night. Live music around ever corner. An area fantastic for the day, and even better at night.

Wynwood - A neighborhood known as the capitol of real graffiti art. Artists from all over the world come to be featured on full building art installations. Plenty of galleries and boutique shops. There are always plenty of events going on, and if you love modern art... this is the spot.

I can't wait for the day when travel is back on my calendar. As a Yacht Captain that is actively working you must be ready for a new adventure at any given moment.

Couldn't be more ready for an adventure actually. Because of the nature of my job, I keep a duffle bag (PLCO Weekender Bag to be specific) packed with a week of clothes, my camera, and sailing gear at all times. Trips and opportunities come at the spur of a moment and I don't want to be stressed with getting my gear together. I can typically be on the way to an airport or yacht within an hour.

Can you tell us a little more about life as a Yacht Captain by day and a clothing designer by night.

It is exactly what it sounds like, haha. I always feel bad for my employees, as besides one or two days a week, I am only in the studio from 6:00-9:00 am or late at night. Most of the meat of my day is spent captaining a 78' Sunseeker Yacht and managing a crew and plethora of water toys. Beyond daily maintenance and small trips, I have been tasked with creating mini-adventures for the family I work for. Currently we have the Bahamas, Turks & Caicos, St. Barts and potentially Cuba as week long trips planned on our itinerary. It is exhaustive work but well worth it in the end. I am lucky enough to be in the private yachting industry where I work with an extremely kind and generous family as opposed to the something chaotic charter life (think Below Deck... if you weren't already thinking that!).

At the end of the day (or week long trip), what is the most important quality to maintain in life?

Happiness. I don't work to create a huge profit, and I am not concerned with quarter to quarter sales. If I am on a creative idea roll, new products will hit the market. If the stress of yachting or family life is too much, we scale back a little bit. If I want to take a break, I can do it. The company will always be there, and we have enough success to be turning a profit without theoretically burning the candle at both ends.

That totally makes sense and that being said, it must be challenging to run a business while working a full time job. What has been your biggest challenge in starting and scaling PLCO?

Finances and moving for sure. The apparel industry is expensive to get into, and even more so when you have to move your studio every year. Our unique look and design comes from the fact that many of our products are made in-house. It was easier to buy the equipment and train myself and the staff to make products ourselves than to outsource the work. The silver lining on this is our ability to emerge as a small batch private label and design house.

What's your favorite piece that you have designed?

My favorite piece I've designed is our Seafarer Crewneck. We took classic flags of New England and turned them into chenille patches. We added them to our ultra soft crewnecks for a truly New England centric look. It has been a best seller for us, and my first big jump outside of my original lineup.

I have your Lobstah Crewneck, I absolutely love it! I will have to snag a Seafarer when they are back in stock.

Ok, one final question. What's next for Paul Landry Co.?

Private label and small batch releases. We love how mini-releases have slowly taken the place of your stereotypical Spring, Fall, Winter releases. We can release one or two new products a week and only offer a small run. The exclusivity of owning a product that was only available for a short time or in a limited run is what I think many people are drawn to.

Our mission is statement is "Become an American staple" and in that, is bringing as much of our product line into the 'Made in America' field as possible. As we grow, we can bring on more employees and equipment to allow us to reach that goal.

From the Seaside to the Ski Slopes: Winter Sun Protection

Any good New Englander knows that when the warm months of summer are laid away by the seaside, fall has shed its leaves, and the holiday season is put to rest for another year, it's time to pack our bags and head to the ski slopes. We cross our fingers for fresh snow on bluebird days when the temperature is around the 30F mark and the sun is shining. We ski until our legs can't hold us anymore and wear goggle tans as a badge of honor. That is... until we go to work on Monday and realize a goggle tan on an adult is a mark of irresponsibility as opposed to a trophy. Winter sun damage is real.

Whether at a ski mountain or walking your dog through Boston Common, when you're bundled up under puffy jackets and wooly scarves it's easy to forget that the sun's uv rays still reach your face. In a previous Sea Spritz article, How To Protect Your Skin From The Sun And Maintain A Youthful Glow, we talked about the two main types of UV rays. UVB rays have a "short" ray length and are stronger during the Spring and Summer months when the Earth is tilted towards the Sun. These nasty little rays hit the surface of your skin and cause sunburns. UVA rays are "long" rays and reach the Earth throughout the entire year, even on cloudy days. Though, you may notice their effect on your skin less at the present time, they actually penetrate the skin deeper and cause lasting skin damage. So, make sure you take precautions to protect your skin through every season of the year.

We're Eating Seafood This Thanksgiving

Every Thanksgiving at my family's house is the same story, we start the day ready for a big old festive meal and it ends with, well, a few family arguments and stomaches so full we shiver at the idea of more food even before the turkey is placed on the dinner table; hence why we are starting the day light, easy, and full of flavor with Smoked Salmon Blinis.

As you sit back and relax today, perhaps, a tad happy that your family time is scheduled for a brief zoom call (don't worry, I wont tell), read through our typical Thanksgiving by the beach and let me know if it sounds similar to yours.

Let me break it down for you Bridget Jone's Diary style --

6:22am: Wake up, look at the time, try and fall back to sleep.

7:04am: Roll back over to check the time, decide its past 7 and I've "slept in" so it's time to get up.

7:05am: Play on phone.

7:08am: Get up and go downstairs. Look out the window and check for coyotes. Don't see any. Let the dogs outside.

7:30am: Make some coffee.

7:43am: Realize I have awoken the house. Family starts wandering downstairs. Decide it's a little too early to talk to anyone and take my coffee and the dogs down to the beach.

8:15am: Everyone is up. There is talk of getting exercise in before the big meal. I half-heartedly commit to a short run because it might help my slightly thick head from the evening before.

8:37am: Feel like I am being forced against my will and begrudgingly change into running gear.

8:40-9:15am: Run. Have some grumpy and unsavory thoughts about my fiance, brothers, sister-in-law, perhaps one of the dogs if they came along, and anyone else who dragged me into this.

9:16am: Feel relieved and fairly happy that I got a little exercise in. Thick head gone. Feel more pleasant towards the company I keep.

9:30am: Shower up.

9:49am: Congregate back in the kitchen and decide we have a light breakfast of fruit and maybe a half a slice of toast each even though we're all actually pretty hungry. We want to save room for the Thanksgiving feast.

10:30am: Start cooking.

12:11pm: Pop open the bubbly, it is a day to celebrate after all. And, hey, it's after noon.

12:32pm: The glass of bubbly has made us peckish, you could say it has unleashed the hunger we've all been denying. We ignore it.

1:05pm: The first app is ready. Someone takes the spinach and artichoke dip out of the oven, it looks ooey-gooey and delicious. I quickly toast a baguette while the dip cools and slice it up. Someone couldn't wait and has burnt their mouth on the liquid lava; they won't be able to taste anything else the rest of the day. We all feel bad but are secretly glad there will be one less hand dipping into the bowl of spinach and artichoke dip.

1:17pm: I spread a delicious glob of spinach-artichoke dip over a piece of toasted baguette, I hear angels sing.

1:20pm: It's as if something has awoken in all of us and we are put into action. Suddenly, a charcuterie board has been prepared, my Uncle Bill's secret family meatball recipe is off the stove, shrimp cocktail dances from my hand into my mouth, and a baked brie encrusted in pastry dough glistens in its golden brown glory teasingly, flirting with us all to dig in and take the first bite.

1:30pm: We say we're just going to have a little bit while we cook as we fill our plates, fill our mouths, and fill our souls.

2:18pm: The cooking has mostly been completed, now it is just a waiting game. Another bottle of bubbly? Get the saber!

2:42pm: The champagne is flowing freely and someone remembers we got oysters for a nice "light" app before the main meal. I grab the Women Clothing - Tank Fashion,Shop for Women's Clothes FashionShucker.

3:00pm: Someone has suggested an oyster-off. I am not interested, no one is. Why race to eat such a delicious delicacy?

3:14pm: My mom comes in and reminds us not to each too much because dinner will be ready by 4:00-4:30. We shake our heads 'of course' but, inside, each of us knows the truth, we are full.

3:24pm: The pot of meatballs is almost empty. There are only about 2 per person left. We all pretend not to notice but in truth, we've had our eyes on the pot the entire time. You see, my Uncle Bill's meatballs are a sweet and spicy temptress that only grace us with her presence twice a year, Thanksgiving and Christmas. They are black magic. They are our Thanksgiving Day kryptonite. My fiance, not knowing the power of these meatballs, digs in.

3:25pm: My brothers and I wait politely for him to finish. Panic ensues as we fill our toothpicks with the remaining balls.

3:28pm: Someone has spilled sauce on my Mother's carpet. I repeat, SOMEONE HAS SPILLED SAUCE ON MY MOTHER'S CARPET.

3:29pm: I sprint to the kitchen for a can of seltzer. My mom, basting her turkey, turns to me and asks if I have seen a ghost. I say 'yes' because this house is haunted and I don't want her to know the truth.

3:30pm: My brother pops open the can and starts blotting the carpet.

3:31pm: It looks like we have been successful in removing the stain. Just in case, we strategically place a dog toy over the spill.

3:38pm: We must ease the tension in the room. Another bottle of champagne.

4:00pm: We are full and we are sleepy. A group nap takes effect.

4:38pm: We are awoken by the dinner bell (AKA, my Dad turning off the tv and asking us why all the champagne bottles are already empty).

4:46pm: We gaze across a beautiful tablescape of Thanksgiving day classics from a perfectly roasted turkey to silky mashed potatoes, from maple roasted brussels sprouts to glistening cranberry sauce. And yet, we feel nothing, if not a little sick because we have done what we promised ourselves we wouldn't do - we have filled up before dinner.

Anyways! That's why this year I am planning a pre-thanksgiving brunch that will leave us hungry and excited about our dinner feast. I'm keeping it simple, light and delicious. This is the menu:

Veggie frittata
Mixed green salad
Oysters on the half shell
Smoked Salmon Blinis

The Best App + Aperitif For The Holidays

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. I love fall in New England and an extra long weekend to enjoy it. I love getting together with family and friends, drinking a little too much wine, and eating way too much food. I love cozy fires and cooking for days. I love turkey, gravy, mashed potatoes - all of it. There's only one problem, by time we carve the turkey, I've already filled up on delicious and decadent appetizers.

This year, my parents are hosting Thanksgiving in Chatham (I can't wait). I've decided my contribution to the meal will be nice, light appetizers to fill a gap but not a hole before the main meal. We will be on the water so it seems fitting to lean into the oceans offerings, seafood. I'm preparing oysters on the half shell and smoked salmon blinis.

I'm excited to share my favorite blini recipe with you below and would like to note that Champagne is the perfect aperitif to pair with these little delights. Pop the bubbly and enjoy! Happy Thanksgiving!

Smoked Salmon Blini

Ingredients

1/3 cup buckwheat flour
2/3 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
3/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons milk
1 egg
1 tablespoon butter, melted
1/2 lb smoked salmon, thinly sliced
Olive oil or preferred oil for pan
Creme fraiche
Dill

1. In a large bowl mix buckwheat flour, all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.

2. In a separate bowl, whisk together milk, egg, and butter.

3. Pour liquid mixture into flour mixture and combine until the batter has a smooth and even consistency.

Whether you dress up or down this Thanksgiving, bring an ocean of memories to the table with you.

4. Heat a sauté pan over medium heat. Drizzle in 1 tablespoon of oil (continue to add more oil between each round of cooking). Pour in batter 1 tablespoon at a time to create small pancakes. When bubbles form in the batter, starting with the edges, use a spatula to flip the pancakes and cook the opposite side for 1-2 minutes. When cooked through, remove pancakes and set on wire rack to cool.

TIP: Personally, I like my blinis to have a nice golden-crisp surface on both sides.

5. Repeat step #4 until all the batter is used.

6. When all the blinis have come to room temperature, top with thin slices of smoked salmon, crème fraîche, and a sprig of dill.

7. Sprinkle with sea salt and cracked pepper.

I'd unpack my suitcase from an international backpacking trip and immediately pack up my car to move across the country. In 2015, running a small business became all consuming. Both my professional and personal life settled into a muddied gray area; a place that's been both a blessing and a curse.

Fast forward to now and I've been running Women Clothing - Tank Fashion,Shop for Women's Clothes Fashionfor 5 years. I have a better grasp on the business and more structure in place. I'm ready to set new goals for myself and rekindle my adventurous side. So, I've come up with a bucket list of 30 things I would like to do before my 40th birthday. Some of the goals are big, other small, all of them exciting.

Hi! I am Lara Montenegro. I am from Brazil. I was born and grew up in Northeastern Brazil, and 10 years ago moved to Sao Paulo (Southeastern Brazil) to pursue a career in fashion design. I’ve been in Boston now for two and a half years and I really love this place. I am really happy here.

That’s great! I am so happy that our winters didn’t scare you away. Can you tell us a little bit more about yourself?

I consider myself a calm, creative and sensory person, I am always willing to explore new places and have different experiences. My relationship, interest and proximity to art and crafts have been present since my childhood. I have always been attracted to this universe. Seven years ago, after being fascinated by the jewelry world, I started my own jewelry studio in Sao Paulo, Brazil. And two and a half years ago my husband received a job offer at MIT, so we decided to move to the U.S. We thought it could be a big change but also a good experience for us, we were right! This city has been very kind with us.

So, what is your experience with jewelry?

I have a degree in fashion design and a graduate degree in set and costume design. It took a while, but I discovered that my great passion indeed is jewelry design. My pleasure in working with my hands has accompanied me since I was a child, when my mother shared with me the lessons that she learned in courses she took in her free time. When I was in college I started to create jewelry for myself. I used to use different materials, like wood, linen, wool, among others. It was very different from the things that I create nowadays, simpler... more naive. I remember the first time when someone saw the jewelry I was wearing and asked me where I bought it, and a few days later I started selling them to my friends and others. Years later, I decided to take metal smith classes, and then I found myself working with brass, silver and gold. I used to make some drawings, modeling using just paper, or brass. Sometimes I simply sit in the studio and see what happens next. Nowadays, I have started to work with 3D modeling. It is very good to see the final result, but I really like to put my hands on the materials, so I like to work with both. I always feel good after a long day at the studio.

Oh, I know that feeling! I’d love to learn more about your jewelry line, I love an origin story! Tell us about your first collection.

When I was finishing my graduate studies, I decided to create a jewelry collection inspired by a Brazilian set designer called José Dias. I remember that at that time I was enchanted by the geometric shapes that were always present in his projects. I looked for ways to capture in metal something so ephemeral like a scenario is. That's when I found an old passion, jewelry, with this inspiration and decided to take metalsmith classes. It wasn’t enough for me to just design the jewelry, I wanted to make it myself! I created a small collection of silver rings, necklaces, and earrings. Shortly after finishing my graduate studies, some friends were interested in buying my designs. Then, I started creating for friends, after that, for friends of friends, and then finally I decided to officially start a studio and sell my jewelry in physical and online stores. The best feeling for me is when I see someone using jewelry I made. It's so fulfilling!

What inspires you most when designing jewelry?

I can say that everything around me can become inspiration. I try to work on my sensitivity and keep an open mind, be able to absorb shapes, colors, textures, to contribute to my creative process. The colors, the sinuous shapes, the diversity and the richness of nature inspire me daily. Walking makes me think clearer, when I go to museums I always return home full of ideas. A trip can make me feel more alive and willing to create, but what enchants and inspires me most is the sea. Since I was little I spent summer holidays at the beach. In addition to beautiful memories, I can say that I feel a strong energy from the sea. I feel lighter after seeing the sea, it's like stepping on the sand and swimming in the sea would take away all the bad energies and recharge my soul’s battery. This was, without a doubt, why I feel so identified with letsmoveknoxville’s designs. When I saw the jewelry created by Bridget I could smell the sea air and then I thought: I want to work with her! Here I am :)

From one beach bum to another, I love that answer! What are you most excited about working with letsmoveknoxville?

I can’t say how happy I am to work here! It feels so good working with handcrafted jewelry with high quality materials. I love the clean and sophisticated designs that Bridget creates. I admire the design that refers to the nautical, but without being obvious. I am very excited to create with Bridget!!

Yes! We can't wait to debut all the new designs that we've been talking about. Now, for a couple of fun questions. Tell us about some of your hobbies.

I adore spending my free time drawing, painting (using watercolor and acrylics), cooking, baking... In general, creating something.

What are your favorite spots in Boston?

I love to go for a walk at Esplanade, Riverbend Park, MIT, Harvard Yard, Boston Common, Fine Arts Museum, the Aquarium, Little Italy... I can write a long list about it (oops.. Boston and Cambridge).

Tell us your dream vacation.

I would like to visit Lyon in France. Since my husband visited it, he has showed me pictures from there and based on things that he said to me I think I will love that place.

I'd love to travel there too! If you were a marine animal, what would it be?

A mermaid?! Lol! If I were a marine animal, I would like to be a seahorse! They are so elegant! Also some species are able to change color according to the environment in which they are. And another interesting fact is that the male seahorse gets pregnant and gives birth. Wow!

The Easiest Appetizer for the Tail End of Tomato Season

The start of each summer is marked by the first overflowing bin of watermelon at the grocery store. You know you've reach the peak of the season when suddenly tomato recipes are coming at you from every direction. Thankfully, tomatoes have a long harvest period and are as flavorful in early August as they are in mid-late September.

Fresh, canned, in salad, in soup; I'll take a tomato anyway it comes. Whether I'm entertaining a crowd (not this summer) and need a quick and easy appetizer or want a light bite for dinner for a party of 2, this simple Tomato Mozzarella Bread is one of my favorite go-to recipes. The subtly and mildness of the mozzarella allows the big flavor of in-season tomatoes to be the front runner on your taste buds.

Tomato Mozzarella Bread

Ingredients

A loaf of crusty bread
3-4 Vine ripe tomatoes
1 Ball of mozzarella (or better yet, burrata, yummm)
Olive oil
Balsamic glaze
Sea salt + cracked pepper

1. Slice the baguette into 1/4"-1/2" discs. I like to cut the bread on a diagonal so there's more surface area for all the good stuff.

2. If you like a nice crunch to your bread go ahead and set your oven boiler to medium (I always get a burn when I put it on high!). Pop the baguette slices on a baking sheet and into the oven, keeping an eye on when the top of the bread turns golden brown. Flip the slices upside down and toast until the bottoms match the top.

3. Arrange the bread on a platter and drizzle with olive oil.

4. Slice those locally grown, can't get fresher tomatoes about 1/4"-1/2" thick and place on top of the baguette slices.

Do you ever find yourself cooking as a way to take a break and reset your day? I do. I find cooking is not only a creative outlet but an incredibly mindful practice. 4. Thinly slice "shavings" off of your mozzarella or burrata ball and top the tomatoes with it.

Characteristics of a True Beach House (They're Not What You Think)

We can all agree that ocean views and beach front property are fabulous qualities of a summer house. To me, it's the details lacking grandeur that make a beach house a home. It's the small choices made for function over fashion, like the absence of carpets so sand is easier to clean up, and the seasonality of the decor that allows for our presence to fill the space with personality.

That said, there are a few items that are essential to any beach house, and, if they are not at yours, I can guarantee they are at the neighbors next door.

Here are the items I believe are essential to any beach house:

-An outdoor shower.

-Peanut butter, in case you get in too late to grocery shop.

-Driftwood, found at the beach.

-A wild raspberry bush.

-Shingles.

-A good grill.

-Any number of fishing rods, half with tangled reels.

-An unwelcome visit from a skunk.

-A boogie board.

-Hydrangeas.

-A fire pit.

-Fireworks (shh).

-Damp towels.

-More importantly, extra towels.

-Adirondack chairs.

-A happy dog.

-A well stocked wine and beer fridge.

-A half dozen empty sunscreen bottles.

-A collection of something obscure.

-Lady bugs.

-The subtle scent of mildew.

-Friends.

-Family.

And time that finally feels like it's moving at a breathable speed.

Underwater Photographer, Bryant Austin, and His Study on Whales

Chatham, MA is home to a number of art galleries. Focus Gallery showcases fine art photography and is my favorite. I'm captivated by the giant images of whales that fill the walls; I leave downtown and find myself in the middle of the ocean swimming alongside these beautiful creatures.

Bryant Austin is the photographer behind these images. His work takes years to create as he waits patiently for the whales to come to him. He will float at the top of the waters' surface and "get to know" the whales before photographing them. The intimacy of his work shows his care and compassion towards these animals. The following are some of my favorite photographs from two different collections that span over 10 years. Seeing these images full scale in person is a whole different experience. I urge you to seek out Austin's work the next time you are in Chatham.

All About Nautical Fids

How do you judge the skill of a sailor? By his rope work. And what tool does a sailor use to perfect this skill? A fid, also referred to as a marlinspike.

So, what is a fid? A nautical fid is a tool that's typically conical in shape with a taper point on one end. It's used when knotting or splicing rope.

Traditionally, Fids were carved out of wood and bone. In the 18th and 19th centuries sailors spent months at sea; to entertain themselves on their voyages, they would carve decorative motifs and scrimshaw into the handles of fids. These tools are beautiful artifacts that tell the sailor's story. Some are even collectible antiques that sold with price tags exceeding $500. They are the inspiration behind our men's and women's Fid Cuff Bracelet and Slim Fid Cuff Bracelet.

Today, fids are used to splice through newer materials, like rope cable made of metal fibers, so they are made out of stronger material like steel and iron. Technically, these metal fids are referred to as marlinspikes.

Fids can range in size from just a couple inches with a pin sized point on one end to 18" long with a taper point 1" in diameter. The size of the taper point is determined by the size and type of rope being used. Think about it, the rope used to secure a sail is much smaller than the rope used to dock a 1,200 ft shipping vessel.

Fids have a number of purposes aboard a boat. The taper point on the end of the fid can work between the strands of a knot, this lessens the pressure so that a knot can be untied or held open. The fid also aids in splicing rope. Splicing is the practice of forming a joint between two points in the same line using only the fibers from said rope. One of the most useful knots that uses a fid is the Marlinspike Hitch. This hitch creates a temporary opening within the knot to insert a handle. It's often used when creating a rope ladder.

Being skillful with knots and rope work is still a necessity for boat safety. The fid maintains it's functionality for marine purposes. It's a tool every sailor should have ready to use.

My Grandfather Recalls Memories from Cape Cod and Nauset Beach

Last year, my aunt gifted our family with a StoryWorth subscription. StoryWorth is a service that prompts family members, in this case my Grandfather, with questions. The answers, or memories, are captured and shared in a book.

In the first half of the 20th century, my Great Grandfather purchased a hunting and fishing camp along an isolated and rugged stretch of coastline called Nauset Beach. Our family continued to use the camp as a getaway until it washed away in 2007. It was the heart of so many memories. (I've talked about the camp in other blog posts, if you are interested check out, Swept to sea: my final walk through the Harriss camp). I have thoroughly enjoyed reading my Grandfather's memories of our family camp from decades before I knew it. The following are a few of my favorite Q&As.

Side note, for all intents and purposes, Nauset and North Beach are the same. Also, I made some spelling and grammatical changes (disclaimer in case a cousin is reading this and my Grandfather's answers sound a little different ;-)).

Q: Tell us about some of your great memories from Cape Cod.

The best of Cape Cod.

My Father went to a sandbar out of Orleans on the cape with Paul Rasmussen, a shooting buddy, to shoot ducks. Paul had a camp on the sand dunes. My Father liked it so much that he negotiated to buy the camp next door. These camps were shacks with no home features.

My first experience going there I was asked to help a carpenter to resin glue the roof. This I did on part of my summer break from Boston University. [It was] A GREAT LEARNING PROCESS .

Elinor and I spent part of our Honeymoon at the cape shack.

I loved the ease of fishing for bass, casting into the surf or from the boat in the bay.

As my children got older we spent our vacations at the shack.

In time, improvements were made to the camp, but it still remained a shack.

One year after everyone went home, I went out for my last fishing trip in the bay. I caught a very large bass, 40/45 pounds (I forget) but my family was not there to see it.

It was different from my normal way of life, digging for clams, other shellfish, and one year the bay was loaded with lobster.

It was great while it lasted.

Q: What are your earliest memories of taking the family to cape cod?

My earliest memories of going down to the Cape with the family [involve] the transportation factor. I had to go down first to get the boat which was usually anchored off the camp. I had to take the jeep down to the camp to get the boat. The family came down in a regular car to a point called Scatteree [a beach/landing in Chatham]. They would flash the headlights and I would check the boat across the bay and pick them up. This was not too bad but as a family to increased, the operation changed a bit.

The fact remains that in the early days the camp was very primitive - kerosene lamps, no running water, it was a pump by the sink which had to be primed to get started. The only one [positive] factor was that the old house had a commode in the garage, but it had to be emptied periodically.

We survived these times. As the family got larger we made various improvements such as a gas line and gas lights in the lower floor. We had problems in the beginning with sand piling up over the winter in front of the garage doors but that was very mild and we overcame it very easily.

In the beginning, there were plenty of fish, clams, quahogs, and other types of wildlife.

Q: Talk about some memorable fishing trips at the cape house.

First, the best fishing event I had was the one I have written about, whenI caught a 40 or 45 pound stripper. But I am a bit vague on the weight as I sold it at the Chatham Fish Pier. It could have been 75 pounds.

The real joy was surf casting. I never knew about [this] till my father took me to the camp on the sand strip off Chatham [Nauset Beach].

I caught many strippers over time but one experience sticks with me. At low tide on the Atlantic Ocean strips of sand were exposed (sand bars). So to cast further out to sea, I went out on one of the strips. The end I was on was higher than at the beach. Sure enough when the tide started to come in I did not realize I was going to be trapped. I started back but the sand was covered with water and it was soft to walk on. It was tough walk and no one on the beach but I made it ok. Never to do that again.

Q: How did you see fishing and clamming change in cape cod over the years?

When I first went to north beach, a sand bar off Chatham, there were 3 or 4 sand dunes facing the ocean before you could get to the camp. There was also a line of telephone poles going to the old coast station.

During the 50s and 70s these all disappeared.

This was also true of the fishing etc.

You could live off the land in the early days. Plenty of fish, flounders, stripers and shell fish.

But gradually over time this all changed, more people bought second homes, more summer tourists, more people could purchase boats and the tides changed the shape of the shore line.

So gradually there were less stripers on the outer beach and then the bay was changing. One year I found the large sea clams in a sand bar in the bay, next year they wee gone. And some years later there were plenty of lobsters. There were plenty of clams on a nearby sand bar, but the ties changed it so no more.

At first it was a surprise to see seal on the beach or in the water, now there are hundreds around the sand islands and below the entrance to the harbor.

It is a constant change but I am sure it will change for the better in the future.
